These 64 poems are a melding of two collections, a 1996 volume whose title is used again here, and a 1993 collection entitled Nach House ("Homeward," here called "Letter Home"). Distinguished German poet Kruger has an unusual gift for expressing evanescent feelings and subtle ideas in deceptively simple, richly detailed, and realistic language. This style makes the poems multi-layered in their accessibility: beginning with the seeming familiarity and allure of the imager and proceeding through the oddly reassuring poetic "voice," which often seems to speak to complexity that we may not have anticipated when we were drawn in by the poems opening imagery. About the Author
Michael Kruger s successful career as a poet and novelist has been paralleled by his long and distinguished record as head of the German publishing house Hanser Verlag and editor of the influential journal Akzente. He recently received the Morike Prize, one of Germany s most prestigious awards, in recognition of his contribution to both sides of the trade. He lives in Munich.
