Fun, self-paced way to learn haftarah trope!

When it comes to haftarah trope how-tos, there seems to be a lot of material focused around the reluctant twelve-year-old trying to learn this stuff for the first time or the experienced chanter looking for a quick refresher, without much in between. This book is that "in between"-- it's ideal for somebody like me, the "interested beginner" who is willing to put in some time to learn the trope properly and wants to learn a little bit of how and why along the way. There are lots of practice exercises along the way to learn new tropes, reinforce the old melodies, and gain confidence in reading and chanting. Not to mention the voices on the CD are beautiful.
One note: there are many trope "standards" and this book only teaches you one kind of standard- that standard being Binder/Avery, which I understand is common to many Reform congregations and used on my Pocket Trope ipad app. Not all trope sources will be using the same melodies, and the melody you may want to learn may be a different one altogether!

I love the step by step guidance in learning the tropes. I love that they include both sound files and printed music files. I love that the index has two sections for grouping tropes: one by family and one by pause status. I use both of these a great deal and am so glad they are separate items. A huge improvement in volume two is that the tracks that are matched to the printed music have the music line numbers beside them. This saves both me and my students a huge amount of time. I had to do do that myself for volume one. The one thing that I still long for is larger print for the music sheets. They are very hard to read. My bar/bat mitzvah students don't seem to have any trouble with them, but my adult students and I do.
